Debate Team Continues to Grow and Hosts Its First Regional Tournament
February 1, 2010
On January 9th, BHS hosted its first debate tournament that was attended by roughly 500 people with 32 teams from schools across Northeast Ohio. Hosting a major tournament and being strong competitors on the debate circuit has earned BHS recognition from the Cleveland Debate District, the Ohio High School Speech League, and the National Forensics League.
BHS students debated in two categories, Legislative Debate and Public Forum Debate. In Legislative Debate, also known as Student Congress, four students placed out of 38 debaters: 1st - Elliot Angart, 2nd - Beth Moses, 5th - Sarah Newman, and 6th - Brandon Weisman (his first tournament).
The team now has over 20 members who have competed in nine tournaments this year and 16 members who attended a national circuit tournament at George Mason University in December. The team looks forward to qualifying for and attending the State and National tournaments again this year.
